You know, back some time ago, I was talking to a spoiled young rich kid I knew. He’s really a nice boy, but I was always surprised at the things he didn’t know about, as his dad was busy running the family’s real estate empire, and his mom was busy tossing back the glasses of red wine and prancing off to the spa. Anyway, the subject of the “YMCA” came up. The young fellow said to me “Hey Rob, what does YMCA stand for?

I was a little bemused, but I answered:
“Well Steve, YMCA stands for the Young Mens Christian Association.” A clever look came across his face, and he said:

“That can’t be Rob, my family has a membership there, and we are not Christians!”

Now here I am thinking, isn’t that nice , even though I had presumed that Steve was just a spoiled little rich kid, here he was, maybe feeling guilty about some of the land grabs his grandpapa had performed, or some of the inside deals his pop had made with local politicians to further line the family coffers!

“Oh gosh Steve”, I said, “don’t be so hard on yourself, I know you’re a kind and generous boy, and you really are a Christian at heart.”

“Rob”, he said, with confidence and very assertively, “We are not Christians, we are Presbyterians!”

Well as you can imagine, I was amused, but also disturbed. So I sat Steve down and explained to him how Protestants, including Lutherans, Presbyterians and Methodists are all Christians. Even Catholics, I explained to him, are Christians. You see, we are all under one big tent, seeking fellowship and companionship.
